Ray Benson

Ray Benson is the longtime leader of the GRAMMY-winning Western swing band Asleep at the Wheel. Over decades as a performer, producer and bandleader, he has helped keep Western swing vital while connecting it with country, jazz and American roots traditions. His current duo project with his cousin, pianist Marc Copland, In The Blink Of An Eye, brings together jazz interpretations of standards, Hank Williams, Willie Nelson and original songs. Recorded live at Benson’s Bismeaux studio in Austin without charts or fixed arrangements, the project reflects the spontaneous, collaborative approach that has marked his career.
