There’s something unmistakably magnetic about William Beckmann.

Maybe it’s the velvet-smooth baritone or the timeless songwriting. With two independent records under his belt: Here’s to You. Here’s to Me. and Faded Memories, Beckmann has built a steady, undeniable momentum.

Now, with Whiskey Lies & Alibis, his first full-length record with Warner Music Nashville, he steps onto a bigger stage. But he’s not changing direction… he’s doubling down on who he is.

The Sound: Vintage Meets Texas Cool

Beckmann’s music lives in the sweet spot between George Strait and Roy Orbison, with a little Vincent Fernández soul woven through. This record leans all the way into those influences, blending pedal steel, mariachi horns, heartbreak, and hope.

His sound feels lived-in, deliberate, and confident enough to let the silences say as much as the lyrics. It’s classic without being stuck in the past, and fresh without trying too hard.

The Stories: Lyrics That Linger

Raised in the border town of Del Rio, Beckmann writes like someone who’s spent long nights on empty highways. The stories in Whiskey Lies & Alibis especially on tracks like Neon Sounds, Starting Over Again, Game I Like to Play, and the title track; echo with longing, reckoning, and quiet late-night conversations.

These songs don’t just land, they linger. Even the lighter moments have weight, proving Beckmann knows how to make even the simplest lines hit like gut punches.

What Comes Next? A Career with Staying Power

Whiskey Lies & Alibis might be Beckmann’s major label debut, but it’s far from the beginning of his story. His first two independent releases: Faded Memories and Here’s to You. Here’s to Me., laid the groundwork, revealing a young artist with an old sound and a clear vision.

Those records earned him a loyal fanbase across Texas and beyond, leading to opening slots for acts like Randy Rogers Band, Flatland Cavalry, and Parker McCollum. Every mile, every stage, and every slow burn release has led him to this moment and he’s more than ready for it.

Why It Matters: Country Music With a Wider Lens

At a time when country music is expanding: geographically, culturally, and sonically, Whiskey Lies & Alibis feels like both a nod to tradition and a necessary step forward.

Beckmann isn’t trying to reinvent the genre… he’s reminding us what it can be when it’s rooted in identity, place, and truth. He brings the border with him, not as a gimmick, but as a part of who he is. You hear it in his earlier song Danced All Night Long from Faded Memories, and in his soulful cover of Pepe Aguilar’s Por Mujeres Como Tú.

This isn’t country made for the algorithm… it’s country made for the soul. By staying true to his roots, Beckmann isn’t just contributing to the genre… he’s helping stretch it wider, deeper, and more human.
